„The ABCs of Money“ visited by over 2,400 children so far
Zagreb, 9 April 2015 - In the first month and a half since the interactive exhibition about the world of money entitled "The ABCs of Money" opened at the Technical Museum in Zagreb, just over 2,400 children visited the exhibition. Although the primary target audience of the exhibition are children above the age of eight, the exhibition is visited by primary-school-aged children, kindergarten-aged children and even high-school students.
The exhibition consists of 10 interactive stations where children learn about the basics of financial literacy, that is, about the history, function and value of money, different types of trade, poverty, savings and investing. Through play, in a simple and interactive way, they learn how gold is extracted from deposits by using water, how loans are repaid, how the prices of products are formed, what stocks are, and what fair trade is. This is the first such exhibition in Croatia; it has previously been displayed in Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania and Serbia, and has been seen by more than 150,000 visitors. The exhibition was initiated by Erste banka and Erste Group in cooperation with the ZOOM Children's Museum from Vienna and the FRida & freD Children's Museum from Graz.
The ABCs of Money exhibition is designed as a one big game. At the beginning, the children are given an electronic banking card for their personal account which contains a starting capital. At the stations that make up the exhibition the children have the opportunity to participate in important money flow processes through play. They can do various jobs to earn money, save it or spend it on various goods and services. In a tangible and active way, the children learn about the function and role of money in our society. A multimedia quiz at the stations offers children the opportunity to test their newly-acquired knowledge and earn money through "intellectual work." The application of interactive stations facilitates targeted and independent learning.
The ABCs of Money exhibition can be seen at the Technical Museum at 18 Savska Street in Zagreb until 10 January 2016. It is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sundays and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. A video of the exhibition is available at ABECEDA NOVCA_youtube.com.
