Zagreb, 26 January 2017 – The total number of users of mBanking, Erste Bank’s (ESB) mobile banking service, reached 100,000 in January 2017 and was up by 25% year-on-year. At the same time, the number of transactions was more than doubled in 2016, exceeding 2.2 million.

2016 stats show that each user of ESB’s mBanking service logs in the app 17 times a month on an average. The app records an average of 1 million visits a month, which makes it one of ESB’s most visited “outlets”.

Upward trend of Erste mBanking users

The number of ESB’s mobile banking users started to grow significantly since the beginning of 2012, when Erste mBanking iPhone and Android app was launched. Over the past five years, since the mBanking app was introduced, ESB’s mobile banking share in total transactions was increased from 0.45% in 2011 to just over 8% by the end of 2016.

“We introduced the first mobile banking service to the market back in 2005. It was intended for Java-based phones, which were popular at the time. With the arrival of smartphones in 2012, we launched a brand new app, which was the first in the market to feature “Photo and Pay”, which set the standard in user experience and showed that a banking application has to be functional, as well as user friendly. We are proud to have offered the same functionality in a more advanced version for business clients. For 2017 we have many more app updates in store that will definitely make mobile banking easier for our clients,” said Josipa Baiutti Magdić, Digital Banking Director, ESB.
